Jonathon “JP da Poet” Peterson was born in Los Angeles California on Nov 6, 1986. He began writing at the suggestion of his cousin after JP was separated from his son. Although initially hesitant about keeping a “diary,” he began writing poetry and started receiving positive feedback. The encouragement from family and friends and influence from numerous poets such as Prentice Powell, Obbie West, Queen the Poettess, and Black Ice led him to enter and excel in spoken word contests. As a result JPdapoet is a two times Bards and Brews Spoken Word champion, the founder of Just Hear Me movement which provides a platform for local artists in Birmingham and Montgomery, has been featured in Dope 30 Under 30, a book highlighting thirty leaders in the community, and 2x Alabama Music Awards Spoken Word Artist of the year (2017,2019). He continues his work by reaching out to the community teaching writing and performance workshops.. Focusing on relevant issues jpdapoet has a powerful message delivered in quality spoken word poetry.
